The Tall Lemongrass, Crows Nest
You know those restaurants you walk or drive past and always say “we should go there sometime”? The Tall Lemongrass, located in Crows Nest, was one of those restaurants for me.
We finally got around to dining at The Tall Lemongrass and I only wish we’d done it sooner.
Knowing absolutely nothing about The Tall Lemongrass, it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Everything about our experience there was wonderful. The Thai style interior was great, the staff were friendly and the food was some of the best Thai I reckon we’ve had.
The Tall Lemongrass is also one of those rare restaurants in Sydney that still gives diners something complimentary upon arrival. (I so miss the days of free bread). In this case it was a big bowl of spicy prawn crackers. Mm mmm.
The menu offers a selection of traditional Thai restaurant dishes as well as some “modern twists” and Tall Lemongrass’ “trademark” dishes.
For entree we shared one of the specials – Mieng Khumm – chicken mince with prawns, peanuts, garlic, ginger and tamarind sauce wrapped in betel leaves wrapped in an egg nest ($10). I loved the presentation of this dish and I loved the taste and textures even more.
Our second entree was from their regular menu: almond prawns with a sweet chilli dip ($8). This dish was also very, very good with fresh prawns and flakey almonds and sweet plum sauce.
We moved onto mains, sharing two as usual.
The first was padt lemongrass chicken with summer veg and light seasoning ($18). The flavours in this dish were phenomenal. I would go back for the sauce in this dish alone, it was that good.
Finally, our last main and dish of the evening was one of my favourite Thai dishes, padt cashew nut – cashew nut noodles with chicken and summer veg ($14). This was also so yummy and chock-full of cashew nuts, vegetables and succulent pieces of chicken.
As you can see, I was very pleased with our experience at The Tall Lemongrass. There’s nothing better than delicious and reasonably priced food.
